FromanunwillingnesstoconfesshowmuchherintimacywithMr.Darcyhadbeenover-rated,ElizabethhadneveryetansweredMrs.Gardinerslongletter;butnow,havingthattocommunicatewhichsheknewwouldbemostwelcome,shewasalmostashamedtofindthatheruncleandaunthadalreadylostthreedaysofhappiness,andimmediatelywroteasfollows:
